Elf on the Shelf Anxiety. Yeah, it's a Thing.
What do you do when one kid is in love with the elf and the other is terrified of it's very presence? Do you destroy one kid's Christmas joy to save the other's? I was living a real-life version of Sophie's Choice. But, like, with elves.

6 Lessons Learned from my Pre-Internet Childhood
Growing up in the 80s wasn't all Slinkys and Kool-Aid, but it was a pretty awesome time to be a kid. It was probably a pretty great time to be a parent, too. Mostly because there was no Pinterest to make moms feel inadequate.

Our Kids and Their Phones
Social media is having a devastating effect on our children and their developing personalities. They're beginning to speak in coarser, crueler ways to one another and to a large and captive audience. But taking away their devices isn't the answer.

Photos from the
Winter Solstice Celebration
at Cattus Island County Park

The Winter Solstice Celebration at Cattus Island County Park event DEFINITELY lived up to the hype. We will most definitely be back for next year's celebration!

Build an Igloo was a ton of fun for kids of all ages. Boxes of all different sizes were covered in white paper to look like blocks of ice! We must have seen at least 5 different igloos built in the span of a half hour!

Snowman bowling was pretty cool too! (Pun intended.)

The line for face painting was kind of long but it moved quickly. We only waited about 20 minutes. And there was so much for the kids to see and do inside Cooper Environmental Center that they didn't mind at all--like hugging a Terrapin! (I thought it was a seal at first. Oops!)

The kids also enjoyed listening to shells while we waited in line for face painting.

We listened to about 5 different shells while we waited and enjoyed hearing all of the different ocean sounds.

The kids loved getting their faces painted like reindeer! The staff doing the face painting were so sweet and gentle with all of the children.
And of course Santa perched in an Osprey nest was a spectactular sight to behold! (My kids are anti-Santa's lap pictures, unfortunately.)

After face painting, we painted salt dough ornaments in the shape of NJ!

We ended our visit with a Candy Cane Walk & Scavenger hunt. It was fun for the kids AND for mom.

Plus, you really can't beat the gorgeous scenic views at Cattus Island.

These little Rudolphs gave the Winter Solstice Celebration at Cattus Island County Park two hooves up! We will definitely see you again next year.

Thanks again Ocean County Parks & Recreation for this amazing free family event for the children of our community and their families!
